Here are eight videos showing hospital staff marking surgical instruments. You can see them marking the instruments quickly and easily and with confidence.

These videos were taken during the initial training period and most staff have had only one hour of training before being able to mark hospital instruments.

This first video shows one of the most recent installations in a large and very modern hospital in the UK. The marking unit has been installed in the clean room. The initial application is for the traceability of supplementary instruments sometimes called single instruments or peel pack instruments.

The second video shows an Cusco speculum being marked. This instrument has a rather irregular shape and yet the operator has been able to mark it without any difficulty.

This video is a good example of a well trained operator and shows how the instrument can be hand held during the marking. The instrument is being held firmly without difficulty. The ability to hand hold the instruments during marking allows the marking to be carried out quickly and accurately.

The marking system is able to mark all metal instruments with the operator able to quickly select the correct size of code to suit the instrument being marked. There are five different sizes available.

A recent innovation has been to include marking text as well as machine readable code. This has been requested for wards or customers requiring some identification but without the use of code readers.

This is another closer view of how the instrument can easily be held during marking.

The marking system is able to mark instruments with a range of coloured finishes including black, anodised aluminium, gold plated, polished and satin finished stainless steel.

This is another example of an operator able to mark hospital instruments after only an hour of training. The operator is clearly seen to be able to mark the instruments quickly and accurately and with confidence.
